I love the way I can see something with my eye, imagine how I want it to look as a photograph, and then use my skills and camera to capture that image. Visualizing the image; establishing a connection with the subjects; the whole process is a natural extension of my personality.
I became a photographer because I am curious about the world. I love to travel, discover, and explore; to observe and document moments that reveal an essence of a person or an environment. As I was growing up, both my parents were in academia and we used to travel quite a bit. It was a long way from central Ohio to rural Yugoslavia, but we made that trip several times. When I first picked up a camera it was a satisfying fit. Immediately I knew it was a perfect way to combine my love for visual storytelling, connecting with people, and my non-stop amazement at discovering new places.
As an experienced professional, I approach each assignment with enthusiasm and an easy-to-work-with attitude. Great collaboration with clients and art directors is my goal. I put people at ease, work efficiently, like to keep my production small and nimble, and always shoot a wide range of images to fully and authentically capture the scene. While I’m perfectly comfortable working alone on a portrait or documentary shoot, I love to direct a crew on a campaign production too. I’ve been fortunate to continually collaborate with a great team of producers, stylists, and assistants, and I look forward to the next project with them.
Lately I have busy traveling and shooting on assignment for corporate and advertising agency clients. I am centrally located with a cozy studio on Union Square in New York City for portraiture, and enjoy life in rural Connecticut with my family. While we do miss the bustle of the city, we enjoy the relative calm of gardening and chasing our chickens around the yard.
